| Amalia Rodriguez-Mendoza first assumed office as District Clerk in Travis County, Texas on January 1, 1991 and is in her fifth term of office. This office files 20,000 civil/family cases and 16,041 criminal cases each year, has a staff of over 90 employees and an annual budget of over $3.7 million.
In 1972, she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Antioch College in 1974.
Prior to becoming an elected official, she was Director of the Voter Registration Division of the Travis County Tax Office from 1982-1989.
In 1999, she was elected President of the County & District Clerk’s Association of Texas and selected District Clerk of the Year in 2004. She serves on the Supreme Court’s Joint Committee on Information Technology and chairs its e-filing subcommittee.
Her office’s Internet jury impaneling website, I-Jury, was named one of the top 10 court websites of 2008 and has been recognized by the Texas Association of Counties and Government Technology magazine as a best practice. The District Clerk’s office was recognized this summer by the Texas Association of Counties for best use of technology for her pioneering work in electronic issuance of process documents and electronic service of expunction filings.
A Leadership Austin Alumna, Amalia has served on the Board of Directors of the Austin Museum of Art, the Austin History Center Association and the Austin Public Library Foundation, and BCRC. She chaired the Texas Commission for Women in 1991-1992. She currently serves on the board of the Austin Lyric Opera. |
